CCG: Crafted Consumer Goods

The work aims to push the boundaries of craftsmanship and examine how much craft can be involved in our daily 21st-century consumer products, beyond baskets or decorative household objects.

















Description :The project explores the relationship between craftsmanship and consumer electronics by integrating weaving techniques and natural materials into the design of functional electronic products. Beginning with an investigation into the construction and machinery of existing consumer devices, the work examines how industrial manufacturing prioritises speed, efficiency, and uniformity, often leaving little room for material diversity, repairability, or human intervention. 

Through a study of product systems, material experimentation, and handcrafted production, the project rethinks the relationship between internal components and external form, allowing traditional weaving techniques to coexist with modern technology. Rather than treating craft as a decorative layer, the work positions craftsmanship as a contemporary design practice that embraces care, durability, and material honesty. 

By slowing down the production process and making the traces of labour visible, it challenges conventional notions of sustainability and proposes an alternative approach to designing everyday electronic objects.







Material :

Rattan and its Weaving Technique were used mainly. The functional parts of the original products were being attached.
